Composites prepare for landing

MAG has established a new team of composites experts for the European market and develops new promising applications for the automotive and wind energy industry. MAG Cincinnati has the largest installed based of composites processing equipment and is known as the technology and performance leader throughout the aerospace industry.

Stuttgart, March 01, 2009 - MAG has over 20 years of experience in the development and production of automated composites processing equipment for the aerospace industry. The engineers from the aviation sector utilize the vast potential of composite materials for light weight, high performance components with the lowest maintenance and cost of ownership for monolithic alternatives to complex part assemblies. The life cycle costs of a passenger airplane can be reduced by several million Euros just by weight reduction and maintenance savings. MAG utilizes this technology leading know-how, together with the group's extensive systems development expertise to bring the advantages of composite materials to the automotive and wind energy sectors.

As an important step last year, MAG established a European Composites group based in Germany, which consists of industry-leading experts. This team is acting as project partner and will focus on the development of new initiatives and applications for automotive, wind and other emerging market sectors. Initial projects have already been successfully realised for the automotive industry, producing exterior parts in high volumes and covering the whole process from material handling to the finished part. "MAG already has the largest installed base of tape laying and fiber placement equipment. We have the expertise and the experts now to develop and implement manufacturing systems for mold processing, too" says Dr. Christian Boge, Head of MAG's European Composites group. His team members Dr. Hubert Stadtfeld, Richard BrĂ¼ssel and Ralf Plutowski are all senior experts who produced various breakthrough results in the areas of material research, processing and systems design.

At the JEC show in Paris, MAG will be recognized as an award winning partner in two groundbreaking Composites projects regarding new developments in material and parts processing, such as a new hydrogen fuel tank. This show also marks the premier for the newly established European Composites group.
